Movie Monday - The Time Travelers Wife

So this is a movie that we haven't seen.
Summary according to IMDB:
A romantic drama about a Chicago librarian with a gene that causes him to involuntarily time travel, and the complications it creates for his marriage.
We have no idea if it's any good. But let's see what the critics said...
- audiojoe99 (IMDB user) says, "For everyone who's going in expecting the book, lower your expectations. It isn't the book. What it is, is a condensed version of the main love story from the book, played out perfectly with respect for the text."
I did not read the book, so I have no expectations. My (Jaclyn) friend Kate read the book and loved it, so if audiojoe99 says it captures the essence of the book, that sounds good to me.
Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 37% ... not a great score. But I've noticed that they usually don't like "chick flicks" or girly movies. I understand why, they all follow the same formula, but I enjoy them, so I usually disagree.

Mike McGranaghan from Aisle Seat was not really a fan. He said, "You can constantly feel The Time Traveler's Wife reaching for emotional depth, yet it never gets there."

Leigh Paatsch from the Herald Sun (Australia) says, "Bana and McAdams do share a pleasant chemistry, but can never quite trump the dull and earnest nature of the material they are working with here."
But it's not all bad. Some reviewers did give good reviews.

Sonny Bunch from the Washington Times declares, "The Time Traveler's Wife is an effective romance film for the ladies with a patina of science fiction to woo their boyfriends into joining."

Des Partridge from Courier Mail (Australia) says, "This is undoubtedly Bana's best American performance and you can genuinely believe in Bana and McAdams as lovers who give the story its emotion."
One concern is that people who haven't read the book won't follow the whole story. So I guess it's up to your judgement. Alisha and I are pretty with it people ... so we will watch it, and let you know what happens!!
